PCMP 2025: Filipino Medical Physicists as Leaders in Enhancing Patient Care

The Philippine Conference on Medical Physics (PCMP) 2025, organized by the Society of Medical Physicists in the Republic of the Philippines (SMPRP), was on June 5–6, 2025, at the Diamond Hotel Manila. With the theme, “Filipino Medical Physicists as Leaders in Enhancing Patient Care,” PCMP 2025 aimed to bring together professionals, researchers, and regulators, to highlight emerging research, share best practices, and strengthen the collective commitment to excellence in medical physics in the Philippines.

The Philippine Conference on Medical Physics 2025 (PCMP 2025), organized by the Society of Medical Physicists in the Republic of the Philippines (SMPRP), was successfully held on June 5–6, 2025, at the Diamond Hotel Manila. With the theme “Filipino Medical Physicists as Leaders in Enhancing Patient Care,” the event brought together experts, regulators, researchers, and industry leaders to celebrate the profession’s growing influence in healthcare and radiological safety.

The conference opened with a keynote by Prof. Chai Hong Yeong, SEAFOMP President, who emphasized the critical global role of Filipino medical physicists in shaping standards, mentoring the next generation, and advancing patient care. A highlight of Day 1 was the lecture of Prof. Adam M. Cunha (UCSF), who discussed innovative advances in HDR brachytherapy, followed by regulatory updates from PNRI Director Dr. Carlo A. Arcilla and FDA-CDRRHR’s Dr. Valeriano Timbang.

A major milestone was the roundtable and ceremonial signing of the Joint Declaration on Patient Safety and Professional Ethics in Medical Radiological Practices by six key professional organizations. This landmark statement underscored a united commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration, ethics, and patient-centered care in radiological practice.

Day 2 featured parallel scientific and technical sessions, industry-led workshops, and further insights from Prof. Cunha on translating innovations to low-resource settings. Experts from various institutions also delivered sessions on MRI and CT quality assurance, nuclear medicine facility standards, and clinical best practices. The SMPRP General Assembly and PBMP leadership transition were also held, honoring service and welcoming new certified medical physicists.

The event culminated in the awarding of research presentation winners from institutions including UP Manila and PUP, and the announcement that the Philippines will host SEACOMP 2026, solidifying its role as a regional leader in medical physics.

PCMP 2025 concluded as a defining event, reaffirming the profession’s steadfast dedication to excellence, innovation, and collaborative leadership in improving patient outcomes through medical physics.

[UPDATE] 7 CPD Units for Health Professionals have been approved for this conference through the UP-PGH
