70th Session of the WHO Regional Committee for the Westerns Pacific

The seventieth session of the World Health Organization Regional Committee for the Western Pacific was held last October 7-10, 2019 at the Regional Office in Manila, Philippines. More than 30 countries participated in the session. Several non-State Actors (NSAs) in official relations with WHO, including the International Organization for Medical Physics (IOMP), were invited as observers. The IOMP sent the SMPRP President as the official representative. Dr. Takeshi Kasai, the Regional Director, aims to make the Western Pacific the healthiest and safest region.

International Day of Medical Physics 2019

The Philippines International Day of Medical Physics (IDMP) of 2019 served not only as the gathering to commemorate the birthday of Marie Curie, this was also the historic Oath Taking of the newly Certified Medical Physicists in the subspecialty of Diagnostic Radiology Medical Physics.

The oath of office was administered by Dr. Rolando Enrique Domingo, Undersecretary of Health and Chief of Staff and Health Regulation Team.

Medical Physics Scientific Conference 2019

The residents of Radiation Oncology Medical Physics (ROMP) Batch 2016 organized this scientific gathering with the theme “Pilipinas towards improving radiation use in

cancer detection and treatment” last May 3-4, 2019 in Los Banos, Laguna, Philippines.

The conference became the venue to discuss opportunities both in improving practices, enhancing education, and involvement of the radiation workers in research and development. It was designed to lay out current and improvements in the practices, technologies, and education in the medical use of radiation in the country. Medical physicists, radiologic technologists, and radiology / radiotherapy nurses from the different part of the Philippines participated in this event.

International Day of Medical Physics 2018

Being consistent every year, the International Day of Medical Physics was celebrated on the 9th of November at the East Avenue Medical Center. The SMPRP is in line with the IOMP in promoting the field of Medical Physics for patient benefit.

This was attended by Medical Physicist mostly from Metro Manila and graduate school students from the University of Santo Tomas.

Southeast Asian Congress of Medical Physics 2017

The SMPRP hosted the 15th SEACOMP last December 1-3, 2017. The Congress is to promoted scientific exchange and mutual support among the medical physics organizations in the ASEAN region. This served as a forum for medical physicists to learn and share knowledge and research outcomes in various areas and applications of medical physics; collaborate more effectively with other medical physics colleagues from the ASEAN region; discuss and exchange information on the latest technological advancements in the field of medical physics, health physics, biophysics and biomedical engineering; and foster camaraderie and strengthen partnerships among medical physicists in the region.

The Congress brought together technical experts, clinical medical physicists, health physicists, cyclotron physicists, biomedical engineers, and representatives from the industry and academic institutions.
